Born in Lisbon, Portugal, and having travelled extensively, Da Silva Ferreira’s work has been influenced by time spent in foreign lands. Her experiences and connection with the red land of the Northern Territory (NT) in Australia have shaped her subject matter and style. Encounters with Indigenous elders, fire ceremonies, and other experiences opened Da Silva Ferreira to a calling of the land and its spirits. The artist began having dreams that led to a deep dive into a profoundly intuitive approach.
"It is like a crying of my soul, a soul healing, and a calling from the source. I need to express it to keep it alive." Sandra Da Silva Ferreira.
Colours are selected according to their frequency. In accordance with shape and form, this encourages a dynamic interplay of emotion for the viewer. A dualistic quality can be interpreted in Da Silva Ferreira’s art pieces, giving creedance to both the natural and the ephemeral in a deeply personal exploration.
“It is all about my personal story. Nothing else. When I paint, it is like I am writing about myself,” she says.
The artist’s view is that during her time as an artist, her work has evolved parallel to both her ascension as a soul and her journey as a human. Some may feel like they are travelling to another dimensional plane when they view Da Silva Ferreira’s work. For the creator herself, it is about awareness and self-love, which can take on an ever-expansive presence and orbit.
“I do not have a time frame; it will depend on my dream and my intuition. I know when a piece is finished because I see it. Often, I do several pieces at the same time, depending on how different my dreams are,” the artist says."
Da Silva Ferreira's work has been featured in many prestigious galleries internationally.
